Why July is the hottest month ever!
07.23.2010Press

I had a super exciting month in July (even though it isn’t over yet!). First of all, for any of you non-Floridians out there… it’s HOT here. Temps are soaring in to the 100’s and outdoor shoots are torture. But besides our crazy hot summer, I had a hot month and wanted to share it with you!

First of all, I welcomed 4 new brides to my growing family of KWP clients! I’m so excited about their upcoming weddings – they’re all fabulous and unique and oh-so stylish! And some of the amazing engagement sessions we have planned? Yeah… pretty awesome!

I also had my first wedding published in the new premier issue of Orlando Wedding! I wanted to thank my fabulously creative couple, Susan and Matt Dunn, for having such an amazing DIY wedding and letting me be a part of it!

So what could possibly top that? How about a feature on Style Me Pretty! I was so excited to hear that the amazing shoot I worked on with Lauren, writer of the fabulous Every Last Detail blog, was being featured on Style Me Pretty! I had another shoot the morning it was featured, and came back to my Facebook Fan page and Twitter abuzz with posts, comments and tags about the shoot! I loved working with Lauren and the whole team at MMD Events, along with an array of vendors that Lauren found through Twitter! I’ll definitely have a full blog post coming up with all the amazing details from the shoot, but wanted to post a link to the SMP blog so you can comment on their page first! Lots of love to all the amazing vendors, including Bethany Lorelle (who just sent me some gorgeous pieces for my Jacksonville Bridal shoot), Southern Fete and CardboxDiva! Our model was one of my girls, Melissa Ziegler from Orlando. I always love sharing the camera with her!

And in case you hadn’t heard… SMP is pretty much the mecca of bridal blogs. So this is a HUGE honor, and I’m SO excited to be a part of such an amazing and inspiring team!

Today I was really excited to be featured on another photographer’s blog, Tonhya Kae from Seattle! I was really excited when she contacted me about featuring me on her blog – and I think it’s so great that she gets to know her inspirations! I think we should all take a cue from that :) Her interview questions were so fun to answer (I’ll never turn down a good interview!) and I loved being able to share some of my favorite images to date with her readers! Take a quick peek over on her blog and see how I answered her tough questions! ;) – Dude, and seriously, I love her blog header pic! So cute!

I’ve also been waiting to post this cool post about SnapKnot.com! I got an email from Elizabeth, writer of the bridal blog Shiny Orb, who told me that in a recent interview with SnapKnot co-founder Reid Warner, he shared my portfolio with them as one of his favorites! I was really delighted to hear about it, and wanted to share their great blog with everyone!

press photography

So I’ll try to keep everyone posted on things a little more frequently :) Still coming up, I’m waiting to hear back from my Southern Weddings magazine cover shoot and the new issue of Dujour Magazine is coming out any day now, where I not only have a cover, but 2 editorials! I can’t wait to share everything and I’ve got a few other fun things up my sleeve, too – like an amazing bridal shoot in Jacksonville with some of my favorite people! Just to make sure I end with a teaser… here you go!

Thanks to April Dorsey of The D-Tales, Heather Schnell (makeup), Nicole Beth Miller (hair), Tyler Hill (model), Heather Blackwell (assistant), Lee Forest (floral), Bethany Lorelle (custom hair pieces) and Amanda from Something Blue Bridal Salon for the amazing gowns! This teaser is Tyler in a stunning Lazaro gown!

Also a huge thanks to Jennifer Frances, the best retoucher ever, for making Tyler glow like a porcelain doll! She has the magic touch :)

And I also can’t wait to post this amazing shoot with the uber talented Maria! Thanks to Heather Schnell for doing the makeup and helping on hair, and a HUGE thanks to designer Eduardo de las Casas and Paul for loaning us some EPIC gowns for the shoot (they aren’t featured in these teasers… it’s a huge secret what those shots look like… they’re pretty killer!)

Here’s 2 unedited favorites! These are straight off the camera in Lightroom, with a slight desaturation applied.

  • Shannon Grant: This post should be titled, “Why Kristen Weaver is the hottest photographer in July”. Just sayin’ :)
Missing in Action? Hardly!
06.11.2010Bridal Life

Yeah, it happens :) Even the best of us can go missing for a little while!

So for a brief explanation (and apology, if you will), I have family in town and have decided to take a much needed, however short, hiatus from workingblogging…. facebook.

Ok, so the hiatus is really only from social media – so if you’ve been looking for me on my twitter or facebook – I’m just not there for a bit. I’m also a little slow responding to emails right now – so if I haven’t gotten back to you on something, I will at the beginning of the week.

Also, if you’re waiting on some amazing pictures from me from last weekend’s B.Sessions… they’re on their way! Doing one round before I leave for Nashville on Thursday, and the other round as soon as I get back!

Family aside, I had an awesome shoot today with a sweet couple from New York celebrating their one-year anniversary tomorrow on vacation here in Orlando. They’ve been in good hands since their plane landed at OIA today, first with Jillian Caro for hair and makeup, then spending the afternoon with me at Celebration and Disney for a “Day After” session and “Couples” session! After their photographer “misplaced” all of their wedding photos – they called me to shoot a little re-do.

I loved showing them around, and even though they’ve had a super long day – their photos are gorgeous and I can’t wait to share them all! For now, a quick teaser to celebrate their One-year anniversary tomorrow!

bridal photography

Tomorrow, I’m off to Swap-Land (Gainesville) for Amanda and Keith’s gorgeous wedding! I’ll be back on Sunday!

Green Wedding
05.03.2010Bridal Fashion

In February, I got together with some of the most talented vendors in Central Florida to produce a 6-page bridal editorial for Orlando Style Magazine. The issue just came out Thursday, so I finally get to blog about how awesome the shoot was, and how amazing everything looked!

Our theme was based on a “Green Wedding” – but with a little more modern interpretation. We went for more of a spacey-green, instead of your standard organic-green – accenting floral with vegetation and wiring – a little more of an industrial feel. We actually even had these amazing carnivorous plants (and it was really fun telling people that we needed to feed the bouquet)! Monkey tails, jeweled tarantulas and moss adorned the reception table. Dryer vents accented the modern decor, and our amazing black tiered cake was airbrushed in metallic and accented with artichoke.

I’m particularly proud of this editorial, because the original concept that Melanie and I had discussed truly blossomed from a creative brainstorm session with Lee, Anna and April. It’s so inspiring to watch everyone bring their best ideas to the day! The energy was wonderful and the shoot really surpassed my expectations!

And can we just talk about this location! I died when I found it – it’s a complete Hydroponic Greenhouse! Even cooler, it’s tucked away on the roof of the Roper Garden Building, which is adjacent to the Garden Theatre in downtown Winter Garden! The place was surreal – and such an integral part of bringing together our modern take on a “green” wedding!

The Roper Garden Building is the world’s first rooftop greenhouse showcasing sustainable urban food production of food and fish crops in a closed growing system, using environmentally friendly practices. The rooftop “Green Sky Growers” farm produces an abundance of fresh vegetables, herbs, and fish on an annual basis without the use of pesticides. The greenhouse use of environmentally friendly growing practices also includes the harvesting of rainwater that is recycled in the biodynamic growing systems.

You can view our editorial in the May 2010 issue of Orlando Style Magazine.

Little secret – Kristen K. is wearing my engagement ring in this photo below. It looks so pretty with that dress…hmmm…. ;)
And because I like to brag, it’s a platinum set, not-quite-2 carat diamond solitaire. Simple and timeless.

I loved the way Melanie accessorized this “Maldives” gown by Reverie by Melissa Sweet. Vintage jeweled headbands are the new birdcage veil.

Probably my favorite dress of the day was this “Morgan” ballgown by Vineyard. It has pockets! And did Lee not impress on this bouquet?!

bridal photography

One of my favorite images from the day. Kristen was rocking this champagne “Diedre” gown from the Spring 2010 Vera Wang Collection.

April found this jeweled spider ring box from Z Gallerie. It was one of my favorite accents from the table!

Hope is wearing a Tea-Length Melissa Sweet dress, “Billie”.

Jillian did some amazing hair and makeup work, and I loved the simplicity of adding lime green cymbidium orchid and anthurium to her style.

April pulled this moss-styled shag rug from Pier 1 Imports, and accented it with green floral Gerbera daisy pieces.

bridal photography

April found so many unique pieces for the table! I couldn’t even begin to start listing them…
but I love how the utensils match the Monkeytail fern that Lee brought in!

Huge thanks to Z Gallerie on Twitter for putting together a link of all of their amazing items April used for the table !

OneWed Bridal Feature – How To: Makeup
02.08.2010Press

I get seriously spoiled by the amazing folks over at OneWed.com.

I always think I’m so fortunate to work with amazing vendors in the wedding industry, who love supporting us photographers! Granted, this feature was more about the stunning bridal makeup and flawlessly imperfect bridal hair done by Jillian Caro, but sweet little Twitter-words make me so thankful to be a part of such an awesome company! If you’re a vendor, I highly recommend using them for your business. I can’t tell you how many brides find me from OneWed, and my past clients love how easy it is to post reviews on their site! Plus, they’re a huge supporter of my Images for a Cure event, giving away a free platinum vendor listing for a whole year!! (And lucky Sara Kauss won!)

Model Portfolio Peek: Mona
01.24.2010Bridal Fashion

I’ll admit it – when I first met with Mona to plan her model portfolio development shoot, I was really skeptical when she mentioned doing bridal. I knew she had this gorgeous, sultry and exotic look – I definitely could see her doing fashion and editorial… but bridal? I wouldn’t exactly say I was reluctant… but I definitely remember spending about 30 seconds pacifying her before moving on to the next idea.

I’ll also admit when I’m wrong :)

I just wanted to post a quick peek from my amazing session today with Mona to work on some new shots for her modeling portfolio. She’s a bit new to the industry, but I was more than impressed with how many options she gave us during the shoot!

And my dream team – Melanie Pace and Jillian Caro – just totally brought it. They are amazing, no matter what we shoot, where or how, they know how to make me look like I know what I’m doing :) PLUS (as if I needed any other reason to work with them), we always have such a good time!

I have so many more to edit… but a few quick faves will have to do for tonight! And if you’re not my Facebook Fan, be sure to jump on and check out some hysterical Behind the Scenes footage from the shoot!
