Yay! It’s another fashion shoot to blog!

Maria and I have been planning on shooting together for so long now, that I almost didn’t believe it when the universe aligned and our schedules allowed us to work together! Planning a shoot while Maria was in Miami walking fashion week, and I was in the middle of 3 weddings wasn’t the easiest task, but thanks to the help of her stylist friend, Chris, and the outstanding designer, Eduardo de las Casas (and Paul!), we finally got it together!

HUGE thanks to Heather Schnell for coming out and doing makeup (and a bit of hair!) for us! She’s amazing!

This shoot also caused quite a bit of ruckus on Facebook (my favorite shot of Maria was actually removed by Facebook for being “inappropriate” – thanks to whomever reported me :) )

So let the conversation begin!

Maria and I decided to play around with some of Eduardo’s absolutely fantastic gowns. Love his work so much!

Eduardo was named as the New Emerging Designer at Miami Fashion Week 2008. Keep an eye on this guy!

I couldn’t wait to post these stunning shots of Brandi! Brandi owns the fabulous Boutique 33 and makes stunning jewelry! We worked together before I left for LA to get some studio headshots for her. With a killer team (Nicole Beth Miller on hair and Natasha Smith on makeup), we created these gorgeous images. I know Brandi is dying to see them – so make sure you give her some love :)

Nayara
08.10.2010Fashion

Before leaving for Ohio, I got a call from Melanie Pace (fashionista extraordinaire) who asked me about shooting an upcoming model, Nayara. Of course I’ll always drop everything for Melanie, but I was really glad to meet Nayara and our location was amazing. Not bad for something pulled together last minute :)

Oh, and FYI: when shooting in the middle of July, in Florida, on the hottest day of the year (103 degrees) and on the rooftop of a downtown Orlando condo, at a pool…. wear sunscreen. Especially if you’re paler than a volleyball.

I give you… Nayara!

Inspiration
07.07.2010Fashion Life

I was sending out this mass of email responses this morning, and thought about how novel it would be to start planning shoots for fun again! There was a sector of my life that started there, and although it’s quickly transitioned to more of a “business” – I miss shooting for the fun of it! I love weddings, and brides and all my amazing clients – but the core of where I started comes from a deep love of fashion photography. The energy is unmistakable. There’s such a connection to music and mood – much like that moment when a groom sees his bride for the first time – it’s a connection I have.

So I thought about posting a blog about my biggest photographic inspiration. I think it may surprise some, and honestly – you may not even know the name. But to me, he’s an artistic genius. His name is Paolo Roversi.

I didn’t know of him for awhile – but it seemed like every magazine I’ve picked up in the last couple years – there have been shoots I’m emotionally drawn to. They’ve all been his. The style is unique, the feelings powerful. Although the style is so different from my own (many people think you have to shoot like the person who inspires you… but I find quite the contrary), his work inspires me to feel. That’s it. It makes me FEEL.

In photography, what more is there?

If you’re not familiar with his work, allow me to share some of my favorites:

  • Larry: I too love Paolo’s style. His photograph of Natalia Vodianova is one of my all time favorites. Those eyes really draw you in!
  • Abbey Saloiye: Great inspiration. I see glimpses in your work. You have a beautifully, unique style.
  • Shannon Grant: Thank you for this inspiration! A breath of fresh air :)
  • Susan: I love this kind of photography! Like you, I love when I can feel emotion and/or movement in a photograph. It takes a talented artist to be able to bring that out in his/her subject and share with the world. I can’t wait to see where your adventure leads you!
  • Chris Bowers: I agree very ethereal. I love the selective subdued/pastel colors, and absolutely love the very first picture. Thanks for sharing!
  • Rachel: that first picture took my breath away. so beautiful.
  • Shelly Hutchinson: I can see why he inspires you! His work is very beautiful in a haunting sort of way. Very ethereal!
