Hollie heads to LA

I’m stinky at Good-Byes, so I generally avoid them at all costs When Hollie told me she was moving to Los Angeles (in just a couple weeks), I was super sad, but not at all surprised. It was time for Holls to get out of small-time Orlando and head to the big city lights and pursue her acting… modeling… or just being happy. Whatever it is that she’s looking for in LA, I know she’ll find it I have every intention of making frequent trips out there – since more and more of my friends are heading west.

But before she left, we wanted to get in one last shoot! She wanted to update her portfolio, I wanted to try some genres that I haven’t dipped in to very much recently. And thus, today was a spectacular day for shooting.

The sun was gorgeous, the weather was warm, and my dirty garage floor provided the perfect backdrop for her amazingly sexy boudoir shots. Mission accomplished

Sometimes a shoot will take you on a personal journey. It’s not about the location, or the model, or your camera…. it’s usually about your own ability to grow and challenge yourself. In retrospect, yesterday probably shouldn’t have happened at all. What started as a photographer workshop with Hollie and Lance – 3 cancellations later – turned in to a one-on-one bridal couture session with me and Hollie, Anthony in toe, some last minute vendors who support me when I’m not always sure why, and some amazing light.

The journey must always come from light. The light isn’t always perfect, sometimes we have to wait for a cloud or 2 – but isn’t that usually the way it works? There’s a deeper motivation, a stronger sense of who I am and images that I think will define my work in the coming year. All because of the light.

The location isn’t original – in fact, it’s been done, a lot. But it’s how you present the location that will make the difference. We had a specific style in mind, and major thanks to Amanda from Something Blue Bridal Salon, Lee from Lee Forrest Design, and my amazing model, Hollie – who is much more beautiful than what you see on the exterior, for believing in my vision and supporting me.

Ethereal and soft, feminine and couture – Hollie graciously came along with me as I fight to discover who I am as a photographer.

A Couples Session | Pt. II

So, haha – if you didn’t see the teasers from Hollie and Lance’s Couples Session in Downtown Oviedo, you missed some good stuff. After causing quite a stir on Facebook, I’ve been waiting to get the whole session up. It was nearly impossible to edit these – I don’t think I had a bad shot to delete, which makes my job fun – but a lot more difficult! So I wanted to repost my comments from the teaser blog, they’re very important to the overall concept … (ok, not really, but they’re funny!)

Things I learned from today’s shoot in downtown Oviedo.
1. Hollie is quite possibly as silly as me, and she may be more beautiful as a person than she is on the outside (hard to believe, I know). Also, she’s pocket-size.
2. Lance has a small obsession with the Oviedo chickens, and saved us from several growling chicken attacks
3. You may recognize Hollie from ‘Beauty and the Geek’, but she’s not nearly as ditzy as she acted…. or is she?
4. The Town House restaurant has a great BELTCH sandwich (can’t remember what’s in it, ask Lance)
5. Random Oviedo goers hurt Lance’s ego by asking how he got such a pretty girl. (really, who SAYS stuff like that to strangers? So weird. He’s such a trooper!)
6. Secretly, I knew the whistles were for me, not Hollie. My hot knee-shorts totally rock.
And now, some shots from their couples session! Helloooo hotness. (and to eliminate any confusion, these 2 are not engaged…. just having fun together!)

Now, everyone’s been commenting on Hollie’s crazy blue eyes – but let’s talk about Lance’s eyes. Come on now.

Hollie and Lance, thank you for sharing a day with me, and letting me catch all the cuteness, laughter and sweet, romantic little moments You guys are a blast to work with!
