Sarah Burgess | EPK
03.11.2010Fashion Press

In December, while visiting my family in Ohio – I caught up with International recording artist, Sarah Burgess! She’s been busy traveling the world and recording her new album, but just recently sent me a little message that her new EPK is done, and her label loved our photos and used a few in it! (PS – An EPK is an Electronic Press Kit. It’s what her label will use to promote her)

Check out her EPK, get to know Sarah and listen to some of her awesome music :)

And if you don’t know, you may remember Sarah from American Idol Season 6:

Here’s a quick shot from our shoot :) (View the whole shoot here)

Last season, I was called to do a fantastic editorial with a wonderful team of girls! Although the editorial has been complete for some time, I don’t think we’ll have the privilege of seeing it in print (I recently heard they’ve gone out of business. It’s a shame our local publications struggle as much as they do). But regardless, the team was fantastic and the photos are beautiful – so I’m finally going to share them!

First Look – From a Pro
03.04.2010Press Weddings

Last night, Lauren Grove – coordinator and super-author of the amazing Every Last Detail Blog (which is quickly taking over as one of my favorite bridal inspiration blogs!) - was a Twittering frenzy about the pros and cons of doing a “First Look”. My brides, you should definitely check out her blog post and see what she thinks and why she regrets not doing one.

I’m always hinting (sometimes not so subtle) about all the reasons why a First Look is an awesome addition to your wedding day. From a photographer’s view (and one that has 2 photographers standard in ALL of her wedding collections…hint, hint) – it allows us to completely capture every second of this amazing moment. It’s one of those moments that you never get a second chance to recreate. Being able to put photographers on both sides of you and your very-soon-to-be-groom gives us this amazing opportunity to document the laughter, tears, hugs and reaction when you get to see each other for the very first time.

Make sure you go check out Lauren’s blog, and read all about her experiences and the pros and cons from other brides, photographers and coordinators. Then, let’s talk about how we can include the First Look in to your wedding day!

(And PS – Lauren used one of my favorite wedding “First Look” series of Terry and Beth Hockenberry from their December Jacksonville wedding).

So what to do you think? First Look – yay or neigh?

  • Amal Skoukd: OMG! Absolutely YAY!!! I mean come on, that’s one of the most important moments on that day – the first look – I will definitely have one on my day, that’s for sure! Why would southern brides refuse it???
  • Khristen: Man- it is SO hard to convince southern brides to do a first look. I am a huge fan and wish every one of my brides would agree to them!!
Modern Photographers

Hollie is totally on me to post her shot from yesterday’s shoot – but I wanted to update quick about my recent “induction” in to Modern Photographers! I’m super excited about this, because joining is purely dependent on solid business practice, technical skill, a vote from our peers and most importantly – the creative vision and artistic ability to sustain in today’s “Modern Photography” market!

Although anyone is welcome to apply, acceptance is limited – and so it’s a huge honor that others in my field understand and respect my work. As 2010 really jumpstarts for me, I’m looking forward to what this year will bring!

  • Dixie: Congratulations!
OneWed Bridal Feature – How To: Makeup
02.08.2010Press

I get seriously spoiled by the amazing folks over at OneWed.com.

I always think I’m so fortunate to work with amazing vendors in the wedding industry, who love supporting us photographers! Granted, this feature was more about the stunning bridal makeup and flawlessly imperfect bridal hair done by Jillian Caro, but sweet little Twitter-words make me so thankful to be a part of such an awesome company! If you’re a vendor, I highly recommend using them for your business. I can’t tell you how many brides find me from OneWed, and my past clients love how easy it is to post reviews on their site! Plus, they’re a huge supporter of my Images for a Cure event, giving away a free platinum vendor listing for a whole year!! (And lucky Sara Kauss won!)
